Dayton Children's Hospital has been awarded a $1.8 million grant from the OneOhio Recovery Foundation, a private nonprofit organization focused on substance use prevention and recovery, to support the hospital's growing mental health and trauma programing in schools across the Dayton region.
The hospital's ongoing Student Resiliency Program addresses the increasing demand in the region for student-centric mental health services by providing resilience-building strategies and care coordination for students and families affected by trauma.
Full-time coordinators are placed in schools to connect students with the resources that they need, helping to build resilience skills through targeted referrals and interventions. Their work aims to strengthen students in seven key areas: competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping and control.
Launched in 2022 with partnerships including Miamisburg City Schools, the program now reaches over 30 schools in the Dayton area. These collaborations were made possible in part by the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services of Montgomery County and the Robert H. Reakirt Charitable Trust.
With the new funding from OneOhio, the program will expand to 16 additional schools, while also providing new opportunities for substance use screenings and brief interventions for students.
