Terry Johnson
Statewide Board Director - Ohio Senate President Appointee
A retired physician and former elected county coroner, Johnson has made fighting the opioid epidemic a cornerstone of his professional career and his work at the Ohio Statehouse. Long before the addiction crisis garnered statewide headlines, Johnson was sounding the alarm about the epidemic’s devastating effects which he saw firsthand in his job as Scioto County coroner. As a newly-elected representative in the Ohio House, Johnson co-authored legislation that cracked down on the cash-for-pills clinics known as “pill mills” that had proliferated across southern Ohio and fueled waves of addiction. Johnson also brings a wealth of military experience to his service, having attained the rank of colonel in the Ohio Army National Guard, served as the Guard’s first State Aviation Medical Officer, and been deployed overseas multiple times. He ended his military career in 2011 as the Army Guard's State Surgeon, the highest position attainable for a Medical Corps officer then. Johnson and his wife, Jennifer, a pharmacist, have four adult sons and three grandchildren.
As a practicing family physician for decades, Johnson is dedicated to helping individuals and communities heal from the devastating consequences of the opioid epidemic.
