February 12, 2025 - OPIOID SETTLEMENT FUND BOARD HOLDS PUBLIC MEETING

The OneOhio Recovery Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization responsible for overseeing the distribution of Ohio’s opioid settlement funds to support substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery initiatives, convened its first board meeting of 2025 on February 12.

“While our board meetings paused briefly over the holidays, our work never slowed. Foundation staff, board members, and our dedicated Region volunteers across the state have remained relentless in reviewing grant applications and driving them toward approval,” said OneOhio Board Chair Don Mason. “As of this morning, the Foundation has awarded all grants for the 2024 Regional Grant Cycle—an extraordinary $45.4 million invested in 245 projects statewide. And this is just the beginning—many more opportunities lie ahead and we’re confident our continued focus on evidence-based investments will advance our mission into the future.”

Directors began the meeting with a “Mission Moment” presentation by Duane Piccirilli, who represents OneOhio Region 7 on the Foundation Board. Duane shared the story of Victor Daprile, a regional board member and Ohioan whose family has been impacted tremendously by the opioid crisis. You can read Victor’s story here.

Following the mission moment, Chair Mason welcomed Scottie Powell to the meeting, who was recently appointed to represent OneOhio Region 9 on the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Executive Director Alisha Nelson then presented a comprehensive report, showcasing the Foundation’s major accomplishments in 2024. She provided an overview of projects supported by the 2024 Regional Grant Cycle and highlighted recently-announced grant awards that will support children and families impacted by addiction. Executive Director Nelson also shared a communications report that reinforced the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to accountability and transparency.

In other business, Board members:

  • Received an Executive Committee report from Board Chair Don Mason.

  • Received a report from the Audit and Finance Committee and subsequently approved a budget recommendation from the committee, along with the Foundation’s unaudited 2024 year-end budget report and the unaudited financial reports for December and January.

  • Received other reports from chairs of standing committees: Investment Committee (Director Jim White), Grant Oversight Committee (Director Tom Gregoire) and Personnel Committee (Director Julie Ehemann).

The next public meeting of the OneOhio Recovery Foundation Board is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the State Library of Ohio, 274 E. First Avenue, Columbus.
